The Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) has reaffirmed its position as a key institution in shaping the country’s education system, saying it remains the core body responsible for developing curricula and producing textbooks for primary, secondary, and teacher education levels.
The statement was made by the Head of Finance and Accounts at Tanzania Institute of Education, Deo Fazah, while speaking at the institution’s exhibition booth during the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba), held along Kilwa Road in Temeke District, Dar es Salaam.
Fazah said TIE plays a central role in ensuring quality education in Tanzania through the continuous development, review, and improvement of textbooks used in schools and teacher training institutions.
He emphasized that strong and well-prepared learning materials remain the foundation of a strong education system.
He said TIE is using platforms such as Sabasaba to engage directly with the public and education stakeholders, including teachers, students, publishers, researchers, and parents, to explain its mandate and showcase its work.
“This is an important opportunity for us to inform the public about what we do and to welcome all stakeholders who are interested in working with TET in the development of textbooks and learning materials,” Fazah said.
Fazah added that the institution is open to collaboration with education experts, research institutions, and the private sector to improve the quality and relevance of textbooks used in schools across the country.
He noted that all revised and approved textbooks are available at the TET booth during the exhibition, giving visitors access to the latest learning materials used in the national curriculum.
“We have brought updated textbooks here, including those for different education levels, so that the public can see and access them easily,” he said.
Fazah further explained that TIE has strengthened its distribution system to ensure textbooks are available nationwide at standardized prices.
He said the institution operates sales outlets at its headquarters in Bamaga, Kariakoo, and through authorized agents across different regions of the country.
“Our distribution network covers all zones, including the Northern Zone, Central Zone, Lake Zone, and Southern Highlands. The aim is to ensure textbooks are accessible everywhere at the same official price,” he said.
He emphasized that whether a textbook is purchased in Dar es Salaam, Kigoma, Mbeya, or any other region, the price remains the same in line with government guidelines.
Fazah said the system is designed to promote fairness and equal access to education resources for all learners, regardless of their location.
He also encouraged researchers and academic institutions to continue collaborating with TET in conducting studies aimed at improving education quality in the country.
He said research plays a key role in strengthening curriculum development, teaching methods, and overall learning outcomes.
Fazah added that TIE continues to review and improve textbooks regularly to keep pace with changes in science, technology, and other key fields of study.
He also confirmed that Form Five and Form Six textbooks are available at the exhibition, urging students, parents, and teachers to visit the TET booth to access them.
He said the presence of advanced level textbooks at Sabasaba is part of TIE’s effort to make learning materials more accessible to students preparing for higher education and future careers.
The Sabasaba International Trade Fair continues to serve as an important platform for public institutions and private sector stakeholders to showcase their services and engage with citizens.
Through its participation, TIE aims to strengthen public awareness of its role and improve engagement with education stakeholders across the country.
Fazah concluded by reaffirming TIE’s commitment to supporting Tanzania’s education system, saying the institution will continue ensuring that quality learning materials remain accessible, affordable, and available to all learners nationwide.
