Tanzania and Serbia have moved to deepen bilateral cooperation in agriculture as the two countries seek to expand knowledge sharing, technology transfer and investment in a sector considered vital to economic growth and food security.
The commitment emerged during a meeting between Acting Director of the Europe and Americas Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ellen Maduhu, and Serbia's Ambassador to Tanzania, Jovica Topalović, held on July 1, 2026, at the ministry's sub-office in Dar es Salaam.
The discussions centred on strengthening collaboration in agriculture, with both sides identifying the sector as a key pillar for enhancing economic relations between the two countries.
Serbia, recognised as one of Europe's leading agricultural producers, shared its experience in modern farming, including advanced cultivation techniques and productivity-enhancing practices that have transformed its agricultural sector into a major contributor to the country's economy.
The two officials noted that Serbia's expertise offers valuable lessons for Tanzania as it pursues agricultural modernisation, increased crop yields and greater competitiveness in regional and international markets.
They also explored opportunities for cooperation in knowledge exchange, capacity building and the adoption of modern agricultural technologies to support sustainable agricultural development.
The meeting underscored the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Tanzania and Serbia, with both countries expressing their commitment to translating bilateral relations into practical partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to farmers, agribusinesses and the wider economy.
The latest engagement reflects Tanzania's broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships that support agricultural transformation, improve food security and accelerate inclusive economic development through innovation and technology-driven farming.
