Tanzania's national judo team has arrived in Glasgow ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the country's two athletes set to begin their quest for medals when the competition gets underway from July 31 to August 2.
The Tanzanian delegation features Ibrahim Mohammad Khamis, who will compete in the men's 60kg category, and Andrew Thomas Mlugu in the men's 81kg division. The duo is accompanied by national team coach Omary Yusuph Mgowe.
Khamis will become the first Tanzanian judoka to compete at the Games, taking to the mat on July 31 in the preliminary rounds of the 60kg event. His opening contest is scheduled to begin at 5:00 a.m. Glasgow time.
Mlugu will follow on August 1, competing in the 81kg category as he seeks to advance through the knockout rounds and challenge for a medal.
The two judokas are among the Tanzanian athletes representing the country at the Commonwealth Games, where competitors from across the Commonwealth will battle for honours in one of the year's biggest multi-sport events.
Their participation reflects Tanzania's continued investment in judo on the international stage, with expectations high that the pair will deliver strong performances and boost the nation's medal prospects in Glasgow.
