Simba SC is in the final stages of securing an international opponent for this year's Simba Day, with the club expected to announce the visiting team soon ahead of the August 8 event marking its 90th anniversary.
The annual celebration, which doubles as the club's official launch of the new season, is expected to feature an international friendly, the unveiling of new signings and a series of entertainment and community activities.
Simba's Information and Communications Manager, Ahmed Ally, said negotiations with several clubs were progressing smoothly and that an official announcement would be made once discussions are concluded.
"We are in the final stages of the process. As soon as everything is completed, we will officially announce the team that will face Simba on Simba Day," Ally said.
He described this year's edition as the most ambitious in the club's history, saying Simba aims to deliver a memorable event worthy of its 90-year legacy.
Preparations, he said, are progressing as planned, with performances by both contemporary and legendary musicians lined up to entertain supporters throughout the day.
"This year's Simba Day will be different. We want to make history as we celebrate 90 years of Simba. Fans should expect a unique experience with football, music and many other activities," he said.
Ally added that the celebrations will extend beyond football, with the club planning a range of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the run-up to Simba Day as part of its commitment to giving back to the community.
On squad strengthening, he said Simba remains active in the transfer market and will continue reinforcing the team until the transfer window closes, in accordance with Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) regulations.
Simba Day has become one of Tanzania's biggest football events, attracting thousands of supporters each year for the unveiling of new players, the technical bench and the club's ambitions for the upcoming season.
This year's edition is expected to carry added significance as the Msimbazi giants celebrate nine decades since their establishment.
