Tanzania's national boxing team, the Faru Weusi, will launch its 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign with challenging opening bouts against opponents from Nigeria, Zambia and Lesotho following the official draw conducted in Glasgow, Scotland.
The draw has handed Tanzania two Round of 32 contests in the men's competition. Yusuf Changalawe will face Nigeria's Ankintola David in the Light Heavyweight (80kg) division, while Faki Issa takes on Mwengo Mwale of Zambia in the Bantamweight (55kg) category.
In the women's competition, Zawadi Kutaka, popularly known as the "Tanzanite Queen," has secured an automatic place in the quarter-finals after receiving a bye. The milestone makes her the first Tanzanian woman to compete in boxing at the Commonwealth Games.
Kutaka, who will fight in the Featherweight (57kg) division, is set to face a boxer from Lesotho for a place in the semi-finals.
The boxing tournament gets underway on July 24, 2026, at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, where more than 200 athletes will compete over the course of the Games.
According to the competition organisers, 201 boxers including 131 men and 70 women from 43 countries will compete across 14 weight divisions, with seven categories each for men and women.
The Faru Weusi head into the Games seeking to build on Tanzania's growing presence in international boxing and deliver performances capable of challenging for medals on one of the sport's biggest multi-sport stages.
