Visitors to the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) are not only exploring business opportunities but are also accessing life-changing specialist healthcare, thanks to Muhimbili National Hospital's (MNH) state-of-the-art mobile operating theatre.

On Friday, surgeons from the national referral hospital successfully performed operations on two patients inside the fully equipped mobile surgical unit stationed at the Saba Saba grounds, highlighting the growing use of mobile health technologies to expand access to quality medical care.

MNH Consultant Surgeon Dr Jenikalo Kaguo said the procedures were completed safely and successfully, offering immediate relief to patients who had endured years of pain.

One patient had lived with a painful swelling for six years, while the other had battled the same condition for two years before receiving treatment through the outreach service.

"Both patients had been suffering from severe pain for a long time. We are pleased that the surgeries were successful, allowing them to recover and return to their normal lives in good health," Dr Kaguo said.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Frank Gerson, praised the hospital for bringing specialist surgical services closer to the public, saying the operation had restored his health and renewed his hope after years of discomfort.

"I am grateful to the Muhimbili team for the professional care I received. The surgery has relieved my pain and given me a fresh start," he said.

The mobile operating theatre is equipped with advanced surgical equipment that meets standards for safe surgical care, enabling specialist procedures to be conducted outside conventional hospital facilities without compromising the quality of treatment.

The initiative forms part of MNH's participation in this year's trade fair, where the hospital is showcasing Tanzania's expanding capacity to deliver advanced healthcare services while improving public access to specialist treatment through innovation and outreach.
