Mbeya City have secured their place in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League for the 2026/27 season after eliminating Tanzania Prisons with a 2-0 aggregate victory in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
The Mbeya-based side sealed survival following a goalless draw in the second leg at Sokoine Stadium on Tuesday, a result that was enough to preserve their first-leg advantage after winning 2-0 away.
The outcome brings relief to Mbeya City, who successfully defended their top-flight status after a tense play-off campaign, while ending Tanzania Prisons' hopes of securing automatic promotion through the first play-off tie.
However, Tanzania Prisons remain in contention for a Premier League place and will now face Championship side Polisi Tanzania in the decisive final round of the promotion play-offs.
The two teams will contest a two-legged tie, with the first match scheduled to be played at Ushirika Stadium in Moshi before the return leg at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
The winner on aggregate will earn the final available spot in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League for the 2026/27 season, while the defeated side will compete in the Championship next season.
With Mbeya City's top-flight future now secured, attention turns to the final play-off showdown, where Tanzania Prisons and Polisi Tanzania will battle for the last remaining ticket to next season's Premier League.
