Tanzania's Zawadi Kutaka will fight for a place in the Commonwealth Games boxing semi-finals on Wednesday, with victory over Lesotho's Rapelang Maselela guaranteeing the country its first boxing medal of the Glasgow 2026 Games.
Kutaka, competing in the women's featherweight (57kg) division, successfully passed the official weigh-in and medical examination on Wednesday morning and is set to face Maselela in Quarter-final Bout No. 135 later in the day.
Under Commonwealth Games boxing rules, all semi-finalists are assured of at least a bronze medal, making the quarter-final a decisive contest for Tanzania's medal ambitions.
If she progresses, Kutaka will meet either India's Jasmine Jaismine or England's Elise Glynn in the semi-finals.
The bout also offers the Tanzanian boxer an opportunity to add another milestone to her career. Kutaka has already become the first Tanzanian woman to compete in boxing at the Commonwealth Games. A victory would see her become the country's first female boxer to secure a Commonwealth Games medal.
Tanzania's national boxing team, the Black Rhinos, will be looking to Kutaka to continue their campaign on a positive note as the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games enter the knockout stages.
