The Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) has issued a strong warning to citizens against participating in or being incited into acts of violence and disruption of peace, stressing that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found engaging in activities that threaten national security.

In a public statement issued on July 4, 2026, by the Director of Information and Public Relations of TPDF, Lieutenant Colonel Sylvester Mangure, the army said Tanzania’s borders and internal security remain stable due to strong cooperation between citizens and security organs in safeguarding peace and stability.

“The security situation along our borders and within the country is calm and stable, thanks to the continued cooperation between citizens and security organs in maintaining peace and order,” the statement read.

The statement noted that the prevailing peaceful environment has enabled citizens to continue with their productive and development activities without disruption. However, it cautioned that there are individuals who continue to use incitement and misinformation to encourage people to engage in acts of violence aimed at disturbing national order.

“These individuals are using inciting language and misinformation to influence members of the public into engaging in acts that threaten peace and national stability,” the statement added.

TPDF warned that such actions could lead to severe consequences, including endangering lives, destruction of property, disruption of economic activities, and weakening of the national economy.

“Such actions have the potential to cause serious harm, including loss of lives, destruction of property, disruption of economic activities, and ultimately weakening the national economy,” it stated.

In light of this, the army urged citizens to ignore any calls promoting violence and continue with their daily activities without fear, emphasizing that it will take firm legal measures against offenders in accordance with the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977 and relevant defence laws.

“Citizens are urged to disregard any calls that incite violence and instead continue with their daily activities peacefully. The Defence Forces will take appropriate legal action against anyone who violates the law,” the statement emphasized.

The statement further called on the public to report any signs of incitement or threats to peace to local government leaders and security organs for swift action.

TPDF also assured citizens that it will continue to fulfill its constitutional mandate of defending the country, protecting the Constitution, and safeguarding the people, while working closely with other security agencies to ensure peace, unity, and stability are maintained for national development.
