The Ministry of Finance has trained Finance Attachés and officials from various government institutions on sustainability reporting and public asset management as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency and financial governance across the public sector.

The six-day training programme, which concluded in Morogoro on Saturday, focused on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting in line with the IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 sustainability disclosure standards, as well as the use of the Government Asset Management Information System (GAMIS).

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Assistant Chief Government Accountant for Systems and Accounting Standards at the Ministry of Finance, Ms Veronica Kishala, said the programme was designed to equip public finance officers with the technical skills needed to improve the quality of sustainability disclosures and strengthen the management of government assets.

She said adopting internationally recognised sustainability reporting standards would enhance the credibility of government reporting while supporting the integration of environmental, social and governance considerations into public sector decision-making.

Ms Kishala noted that improved use of GAMIS would also help government institutions maintain more accurate records of public assets, enhance oversight and promote efficient use of state resources.

She added that the training forms part of the government's wider agenda to modernise public financial management systems and improve transparency and accountability in the delivery of public services.

Participants said the programme had enhanced their professional capacity by providing practical knowledge on sustainability reporting, modern financial management practices and the operation of GAMIS.

They pledged to apply the skills acquired in their respective institutions to improve financial reporting, strengthen asset management and support prudent stewardship of public resources.
