The Electrical Transmission and Distribution Construction and Maintenance Company Limited (ETDCO) has been named the overall winner of the 2026 East Africa Excellence Award for Power Infrastructure Development, in recognition of its contribution to strengthening electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure in Tanzania and the wider East African region.
The award was presented during the East Africa Public Service Awards ceremony held in Dar es Salaam on June 30, where institutions from across the region were recognised for excellence in public service delivery, innovation and institutional performance.
Speaking at the event, Zanzibar's Minister for Labour and Investment, Shariff Ali Shariff, commended ETDCO and other award winners for their commitment to improving public services and contributing to the economic development of their respective countries.
He said such recognition serves as an incentive for public institutions to maintain high standards of performance, embrace innovation and improve efficiency in delivering services to citizens.
"The awards encourage institutions to continue working diligently while promoting accountability, innovation and excellence in public service," he said.
Receiving the award on behalf of ETDCO, the company's Acting Human Resources and Administration Manager, Thomas Mwinuka, attributed the recognition to the collective efforts of the board of directors, management and employees.
"This award recognises the dedication and commitment of ETDCO employees. It motivates us to strengthen accountability and continue delivering quality services as we support the sustainable development of electricity infrastructure, which remains critical to Tanzania's economic growth and regional integration," he said.
Mr Mwinuka also thanked the organisers of the East Africa Public Service Awards for recognising the company's contribution to developing and rehabilitating electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure.
He said the award reinforces ETDCO's commitment to maintaining high professional standards while supporting the country's efforts to expand reliable electricity infrastructure, improve energy access and accelerate socio-economic development.
The East Africa Public Service Awards recognise outstanding public institutions and leaders whose work has demonstrated measurable impact, innovation and excellence in public service delivery across the region.
