The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation on development and governance following talks between CCM Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro and the outgoing EU Ambassador to Tanzania, Christine Grau.
The meeting, held at the CCM headquarters in Lumumba, Dar es Salaam, formed part of Ambassador Grau's farewell engagements as she concludes her diplomatic assignment in Tanzania.
According to a statement issued by CCM, the discussions reviewed the long-standing partnership between Tanzania and the European Union, with both sides exploring opportunities to deepen cooperation in support of the country's development priorities.
The talks also focused on governance, with the two leaders underscoring the importance of safeguarding peace, political stability, national unity and accountable leadership as foundations for sustainable development.
CCM said it reiterated its commitment to promoting justice, accountability and political stability, while emphasising that these principles remain central to the country's long-term development aspirations.
The party also acknowledged challenges that arose during the last General Election and highlighted ongoing government efforts aimed at strengthening public confidence in state institutions.
According to the statement, these measures include the establishment of a commission of inquiry, a criminal investigation commission and other legal processes intended to ensure accountability, establish the truth and uphold justice while preserving national peace and cohesion.
The meeting further noted that efforts to advance democratic reforms, including the proposed process for a new Constitution outlined in CCM's 2025–2030 Election Manifesto, remain part of the party's broader governance agenda.
Youth development also featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides recognising the importance of empowering young people to contribute to the implementation of Tanzania's National Development Vision 2050 and the country's ambition to build a competitive and inclusive economy.
CCM said it values its partnership with the European Union and expressed confidence that the relationship will continue to expand on the basis of mutual respect, shared interests and a common commitment to Tanzania's sustainable development.
The meeting comes as Tanzania continues to engage development partners while pursuing governance reforms and implementing its long-term economic transformation agenda.
