Dodoma entrepreneurs take centre stage in push for Vision 2050

Dodoma’s growing private sector has received a major boost as the city continues to support local entrepreneurs to expand their businesses, create employment opportunities and contribute to Tanzania’s long-term development goals.

Dodoma City Council’s efforts to promote business growth have been praised by the Dodoma District Business Council, which said empowering entrepreneurs is key to building a competitive economy in line with the National Development Vision 2050.

The remarks were made by Dodoma District Business Council Chairperson, Alhaj Jabir Shekimweri, during a visit to the Dodoma City Council pavilion at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, popularly known as Sabasaba, where entrepreneurs from the city are showcasing their products.

Shekimweri said the participation of both government officials and private-sector players at the exhibition demonstrates a strong commitment to developing businesses and preparing them to access wider markets.

“What makes me happy is that you have not come alone as officials; you have also brought entrepreneurs. This shows that you understand the importance of building the capacity of our business community to compete in local and international markets,” he said.

He said the private sector remains a critical partner in Tanzania’s economic transformation, noting that sustainable development cannot be achieved without creating a strong environment where businesses can grow.

Shekimweri explained that earlier this year, the Dodoma District Business Council conducted a learning visit to Dar es Salaam, where members visited key trade and logistics facilities, including the Port of Dar es Salaam and the Kwala Inland Container Depot, to understand how local businesses can better participate in national and international trade.

He said the experience helped highlight the importance of improving business capacity, product quality and market access for entrepreneurs in Dodoma.

“Vision 2050 depends greatly on the strength of the private sector. We must continue supporting entrepreneurs because they are the ones who create jobs, increase production and drive economic growth,” he said.

During the visit, Shekimweri toured products displayed by Dodoma entrepreneurs, including spices produced by Furahia Food Spices such as tea masala, pilau masala and meat masala.

He praised the innovation and creativity demonstrated by local producers, saying the products reflect the potential of Tanzanian businesses to compete in wider markets.

“I have seen different products and impressive innovations. I congratulate Dodoma City Council for bringing these entrepreneurs to Sabasaba because such platforms help businesses grow and become more visible,” he said.

The participation of Dodoma entrepreneurs at the trade fair provides an opportunity for small and medium-sized businesses to promote their products, connect with customers and explore new markets.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the private sector’s role in Tanzania’s economic development by encouraging entrepreneurship, innovation and investment.
