Dar residents urge youth to uphold peace, avoid actions that disrupt public order

Some residents of Dar es Salaam have appealed to young people to refrain from participating in demonstrations or other activities that could disrupt peace and public order, saying stability is essential for livelihoods, business and national development.

Speaking on Saturday, July 4, 2026, Magomeni resident Neema Mkasi said young people should carefully consider the consequences of taking part in actions that could expose them to harm or interrupt economic activities.

She said many low-income households depend on daily earnings and lack savings or food reserves to cope with the effects of prolonged disruptions.

"Many families survive on what they earn each day. Any disturbance to peace affects ordinary people the most because they have no financial cushion," she said, urging young people to focus on productive activities.

An entrepreneur based in Ilala, Madandi Donald, said peace and stability are fundamental to the growth of businesses and the wider economy.

He noted that many traders and small business owners rely on uninterrupted business operations to earn a living, adding that any unrest could result in financial losses for households and enterprises.

The residents called on Tanzanians to continue promoting peace, unity and social cohesion, saying a stable environment enables people to work, invest and conduct business with confidence.

The remarks come amid ongoing public discussions about demonstrations, with the residents maintaining that preserving peace and stability remains vital for the country's social and economic progress.
