The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has stepped up efforts to promote tax awareness among young people after training 750 university students on the use of the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS), the digital platform that underpins domestic tax administration in the country.
The training, held at the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA), brought together students from several higher learning institutions, including the College of Business Education (CBE), the Institute of Finance Management (IFM), the College of African Wildlife Management (CFR) and the Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy (MNMA).
TRA officials used the session to introduce participants to the functions of IDRAS and its role in improving tax administration, streamlining taxpayer services and enhancing revenue collection efficiency.
The students were taken through key features of the system, gaining practical knowledge on how digital technologies are transforming tax administration and strengthening compliance.
The initiative forms part of TRA’s wider strategy to engage young people and academic institutions in tax education, as the authority seeks to build a tax-conscious generation that understands the importance of revenue mobilisation in supporting public services and national development.
By reaching out to university students, TRA aims to deepen understanding of taxation and equip future professionals with knowledge of the digital systems increasingly used in managing government revenue.
The programme reflects the authority’s ongoing efforts to modernise tax administration while expanding public awareness of the technological innovations driving Tanzania’s revenue collection framework.
