PMO-RALG opens 400 contract teaching posts to boost business education

By The Respondendents Reporter

The Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) has announced 400 contract teaching positions for Business Studies, targeting graduates from universities recognized by the government as part of efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship education in secondary schools.

The recruitment, being conducted in partnership with Educate! Tanzania, is aimed at addressing the shortage of Business Studies teachers in selected regions while enhancing students’ entrepreneurial skills in line with the country’s education reforms.

According to the announcement, the programme supports the implementation of the revised 2023 Education and Training Policy and the improved secondary school curriculum, which places greater emphasis on practical business knowledge and entrepreneurship.

The teachers will be deployed to secondary schools facing critical staffing shortages in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, Simiyu, Kagera, Geita, Tabora, Dodoma, Morogoro, Pwani and Dar es Salaam regions.

Applications are open from June 1 to June 14, 2026, and must be submitted through PMO-RALG’s online recruitment portal.

Eligible candidates include graduates holding bachelor’s degrees in Business Education, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Arts in Economics and other related business disciplines from accredited institutions.

Applicants are also expected to demonstrate basic computer skills and a strong foundation in business-related subjects.

The government has set an age limit of 42 years for applicants, who must also be Tanzanian citizens. Candidates are required to upload copies of their birth certificates, Form Four and Form Six certificates, academic qualifications and other supporting documents.

Applicants who completed their secondary education outside Tanzania must obtain an equivalence number from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) and ensure that all qualifications are properly validated.

PMO-RALG further stated that successful candidates must be willing to work in schools with acute teacher shortages and will not be allowed to request transfers during the implementation period of the programme.

They must also not be employed by any government institution or other organisation and should not have a history of dismissal from public service on disciplinary grounds.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve the quality of secondary education and equip young Tanzanians with the skills needed to participate effectively in the country's growing economy.

Education stakeholders have increasingly highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship education in preparing students for self-employment and business creation, particularly as Tanzania seeks to expand opportunities for youth in the formal and informal sectors.

With the application period now underway, PMO-RALG has urged qualified graduates to submit their applications before the deadline and ensure all required documents are uploaded correctly through the online system.
