The Tanzania Revenue Authority (Tanzania Revenue Authority) has donated medical equipment worth TZS 162 million to Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam, aiming to strengthen healthcare services and improve patient care as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

The donation also comes ahead of the upcoming President’s Taxpayer Recognition Awards scheduled for July 1 at Mlimani City.

It reflects TRA’s continued commitment to ensuring that taxes collected from citizens are reinvested into improving essential public services.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held on June 28, 2026, the Commissioner General of TRA, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, said the Authority is committed to giving back to society as a way of appreciating Tanzanians who continue to support national development through tax compliance.

He said TRA’s 30-year journey has been made possible by citizens whose contributions have enabled the government to expand infrastructure and improve services across the country.

“We are here today because in July TRA will be marking 30 years of service. These are 30 years of working on a mandate given by Tanzanians. We are grateful to citizens who have significantly enabled our country to achieve development,” he said.

Mr. Mwenda added that the donation is part of TRA’s effort to ensure that taxes collected are seen in the form of better public services, especially in the health sector where demand for services continues to increase.

He also praised the development of Mwananyamala Hospital infrastructure, saying it is a clear example of how tax revenues are being used to improve healthcare delivery for citizens.

The donated equipment includes 100 hospital beds, 10 delivery beds, a dialysis machine for kidney patients, a defibrillator for emergency heart treatment, and a ventilator to support patients with breathing difficulties.

TRA said the equipment will significantly improve emergency response and enhance patient care services at the facility.

Mr. Mwenda further urged public institutions and leaders to continue educating citizens on the importance of voluntary tax compliance, noting that increased compliance directly translates into improved services in hospitals, schools, and other public facilities.

He also commended President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for ongoing reforms and investments in the health sector, saying they have expanded access and improved the quality of healthcare services nationwide.

Receiving the donation, the Medical Officer In-Charge of Mwananyamala Hospital, Dr. Aileen Balongo, expressed gratitude to TRA, saying the equipment will help address service delivery challenges at the facility.

She said the hospital, established in 1973, currently serves about 250 patients daily and continues to face rising demand due to population growth and diverse health conditions.

Dr. Balongo added that the new equipment will reduce pressure on existing resources, improve emergency response, and strengthen maternal, intensive care, and kidney treatment services.

The Regional Medical Officer for Dar es Salaam, Dr. Mohammed Man’guna, also thanked TRA for the support and praised the government for continued investment in the health sector.

He said collaboration between government institutions, development partners, and citizens is essential in ensuring that health facilities are well-equipped to meet increasing demand.

The donation comes as TRA marks 30 years of operations, during which it has played a key role in mobilizing domestic revenue to finance national development priorities.

The Authority continues to promote voluntary tax compliance as a foundation for stronger public services.

Overall, the donation to Mwananyamala Hospital highlights how taxpayer contributions are directly transforming healthcare services, ensuring better access and quality care for citizens across Tanzania.
