The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Emmanuel Nchimbi, is expected to be the Guest of Honour for the World Environment Day (WED) 2026 national celebrations, where he will represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan

The national event will be held on June 5, 2026, in Dodoma at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre.

The announcement was made on June 4, 2026, in Dodoma by the Minister of State, Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Hamad Yussuf Masauni, during his inspection of exhibition booths ahead of the climax of the celebrations.

Masauni said the national commemoration has brought together stakeholders from various sectors to showcase environmental initiatives and strengthen collaboration in addressing environmental challenges facing the country.

He emphasized that environmental protection is a national agenda that requires the participation of all sectors of the economy.

He stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved without strong environmental conservation efforts, noting that protection of natural resources is central to the success of Tanzania’s long-term development vision, including Vision 2050.

According to him, sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, transport, and communications must ensure that their activities comply with environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines in order to reduce negative environmental impacts.

He added that integrating environmental sustainability into all economic activities is essential for building resilience against climate change.

Masauni further noted that Vision 2050 places strong emphasis on environmental management and climate change adaptation, calling for coordinated efforts across all sectors to ensure effective implementation of national development goals.

“Mazingira ni msingi wa maendeleo ya kijamii na kiuchumi. Ili kufikia malengo ya Dira ya Taifa ya 2050, kila sekta inapaswa kuchangia kikamilifu katika uhifadhi na matumizi endelevu ya rasilimali,” he said.

He also urged citizens from all regions of the country to participate in large numbers during the main World Environment Day celebrations scheduled for June 5, 2026, at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma.

He said the event provides an important platform for public education, dialogue, and sharing of solutions to environmental challenges.

The minister called for stronger cooperation between the government, private sector, development partners, and other stakeholders in implementing long-term solutions to environmental issues.

He added that the government will continue to create an enabling environment for innovation, investment, and sustainable environmental projects.

Participants at the exhibition expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the World Environment Day celebrations have become an important platform for raising awareness on environmental protection.

They pledged continued collaboration with the government in promoting sustainable development practices.

This year’s celebrations have brought together public and private institutions, environmental stakeholders, and citizens from across the country, with a focus on promoting sustainable use of natural resources and strengthening efforts to combat climate change and environmental degradation.
