Taifa Stars to return home after cancellation of friendly matches in Morocco

Tanzania’s national football team, Taifa Stars, is set to return home following the cancellation of its planned international friendly matches in Morocco, the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has confirmed.

The team had travelled to Morocco for preparations ahead of two FIFA international friendly matches against Uganda and Rwanda, which were scheduled to be played on June 5 and June 9 in Marrakech. The fixtures were part of Taifa Stars’ build-up programme ahead of upcoming international assignments.

However, speaking on June 4, 2026, to The Respondent Online, TFF Head of Information and Communications, Clifford Mario Ndimbo, confirmed that the matches will no longer take place and that arrangements for the team’s return are already in progress.

“At the moment, those matches will not happen, and the process of returning Taifa Stars is currently being handled,” said Ndimbo.

He added that TFF is coordinating the logistics for the return of players, technical bench members, and team officials who were part of the delegation in Morocco.

Reports indicate that upon returning to Tanzania, the players will immediately rejoin their respective clubs to continue with domestic league duties and other competitions.

The cancellation has denied Taifa Stars and the intended opponents a valuable opportunity to test their squads and fine-tune preparations ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

The decision to postpone the matches was taken by the Moroccan authorities as a precautionary measure following concerns over a reported Ebola threat.

TFF has said it will continue to update the public on new arrangements and any revised schedule for Taifa Stars once all procedures are finalized.
