Polisi Tanzania are stepping up preparations ahead of a decisive NBC Championship playoff match against Mbeya Kwanza, a fixture that will determine their chances of staying in the race for promotion to the Tanzania Mainland Premier League for the 2026/2027 season.
The high-stakes encounter is scheduled to be played on June 28, 2026, at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora.
Head coach Mbwana Makata has confirmed that the team is undergoing intensive training sessions as they prepare for what he described as a very important match in their campaign.
He said the club’s initial target was to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, but inconsistent results in the second round of the season forced them to settle for a playoff spot.
Makata noted that the focus now is fully on the playoff challenge, emphasizing that the team is determined to correct its mistakes and deliver a strong performance to keep their promotion hopes alive.
“We fought hard to reach this stage. Now we are concentrating on preparing well to overcome this playoff challenge,” he said, adding that the team will deal with subsequent stages if they progress.
According to the competition format of the NBC Championship, the winner between Polisi Tanzania and Mbeya Kwanza will advance to face a Tanzania Mainland Premier League side in the next playoff round.
The match will determine which team earns a chance to compete in the 2026/2027 Premier League season, while top-flight clubs will be fighting to retain their status.
The playoff system continues to provide a competitive pathway for Championship teams aiming for promotion, ensuring high-intensity competition at the end of the season as clubs battle for a place in Tanzania’s top football division.
The upcoming clash at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium is therefore expected to draw strong attention from football fans across the country.
