PDPC raises public awareness on personal Data Protection at Public Service Week exhibition

Residents of Dodoma have commended the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) for increasing public awareness on privacy rights and personal data protection during the ongoing 2026 Public Service Week exhibition in the city.

Visitors to the PDPC booth have been receiving information on the Commission’s mandate, the Personal Data Protection Act, the registration process for institutions involved in collecting and processing personal data, and the digital systems available for accessing its services.

Speaking after visiting the exhibition stand, Dodoma resident Mr Victor John said the Commission had come at a crucial time as Tanzania continues to expand its digital services and technology-driven economy.

“I am impressed by the services provided by PDPC. I have learned a lot about the Personal Data Protection Act, the registration of institutions that collect and process personal data, and how institutions can easily obtain certificates through the digital system,” he said.

John urged the Government and the Commission to intensify public awareness campaigns and expand services to more regions to ensure citizens across the country understand their rights and the role of the Commission.

“The Commission is still new and many people, especially those outside major cities, are not aware of its existence. More efforts should be made to educate Tanzanians and establish offices closer to citizens,” he added.

Another visitor, Ms Suzana Ismail, said the exhibition had helped her understand the importance of protecting personal information and the role played by the Commission in safeguarding citizens’ privacy.

Through its participation in the Public Service Week exhibition, PDPC continues to use the platform to educate citizens on its responsibilities, the use of its registration and complaints systems, and the importance of personal data protection in the digital era.
