The Tanzania Truck and Bus Drivers Association has dismissed social media reports claiming that truck and bus drivers are planning to go on strike on July 1, 2026, saying the information is false and intended to mislead the public.

Speaking to journalists on June 22, 2026, the Chairman of the association, Hassan Dede, said all long-distance drivers across the country continue to perform their duties as normal and there is no decision or plan to suspend transport services.

He said the transport sector plays a critical role in supporting the country’s economy, stressing that drivers remain committed to ensuring the smooth movement of goods and passengers to support trade, investment, and national development.

“We want to make it clear that there is no strike. Drivers are working and will continue working. We support government efforts to improve the transport and business environment, and we will not take part in anything that disrupts economic activities,” said Dede.

The association, formally known as Chama cha Madereva wa Malori na Mabasi Tanzania, said it is aware of misleading messages circulating online, including claims attributed to a group calling itself “Chama cha Ukombozi,” and distanced itself from such statements.

Dede urged drivers across the country to ignore the rumours and continue following all laws and regulations governing transport operations.

He also warned against participating in any unlawful demonstrations or activities being promoted through social media without following legal procedures.

He emphasized that peace and stability are essential for the country’s development, calling on all citizens to protect national unity and avoid being used to spread misinformation that could disrupt public order.

In a separate statement, he also cautioned drivers against taking part in planned demonstrations scheduled for July 7, 2026, saying such actions risk creating unnecessary tension and instability in the country.

He reaffirmed that the association remains committed to cooperation with the government and stakeholders in ensuring a reliable, safe, and efficient transport system that supports Tanzania’s economic growth.
