Tanzania’s National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has renewed calls for greater public participation and multi-sector collaboration in environmental conservation, saying sustainable management of natural resources depends on the collective responsibility of citizens, government institutions, private sector players and development partners.

Through its participation in the 2026 Public Service Week exhibition taking place at Chinangali Grounds in Dodoma, the Council is providing environmental education to visitors while highlighting the role of different stakeholders in protecting the environment for sustainable development.

At the NEMC exhibition booth, members of the public are receiving information on environmental protection responsibilities, sustainable use of natural resources, waste management, tree planting and conservation, as well as the importance of complying with environmental laws and regulations in development activities.

Speaking during the exhibition, NEMC Central Zone Manager Mr Novatus Mushi said environmental conservation is a cross-cutting issue affecting all sectors of development and therefore requires collective commitment and accountability from every member of society.

He said the exhibition has also provided an opportunity for NEMC to showcase achievements recorded over four decades since its establishment, while creating awareness about environmental services and digital systems introduced to improve public access to those services.

NEMC said it will continue using public engagement platforms to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage sustainable use of Tanzania’s natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
