Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, today June 5, 2026, visited the Rural Energy Agency (REA) booth during the climax of the World Environment Day celebrations held in Dodoma, where government institutions and stakeholders are showcasing initiatives aimed at promoting environmental protection and sustainable development.

During his visit, Dr. Nchimbi received a detailed briefing on the implementation of rural energy projects across the country.

He was informed by the Director of Renewable Energy and Alternative Technologies at REA, Eng. Advera Mwijage, who explained how the agency is expanding access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy services in rural communities.

Eng. Mwijage told the Vice President that REA’s interventions are directly contributing to efforts to reduce environmental degradation and pollution, particularly in rural areas where dependence on traditional energy sources has historically been high.

She noted that the growing use of renewable energy technologies, including solar systems and other clean solutions, is helping communities transition toward more sustainable ways of living.

She further explained that the implementation of REA projects has not only improved access to energy but has also supported environmental conservation by reducing the pressure on natural resources such as forests, which are often affected by charcoal and firewood consumption.

Dr. Nchimbi commended the efforts being undertaken by REA, noting that clean energy development is a key pillar in achieving both environmental protection and inclusive national development.

He emphasized the importance of scaling up such initiatives to ensure more Tanzanians, especially in rural areas, benefit from sustainable energy solutions.

He also underscored the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions, development partners, and the private sector in advancing green technologies that support Tanzania’s long-term development vision.

This year’s World Environment Day celebrations are being held under the theme “Vision 2050: Let Us Commit to Greening Tanzania,” which calls on all stakeholders to strengthen efforts in protecting the environment, combating climate change, and building a greener and more sustainable future for the country.
