The Mining Commission is using the ongoing Research, Innovation and Community Service Exhibition in Iringa to promote investment opportunities in Tanzania's mining sector and raise public awareness about the industry's contribution to economic development.
The exhibition, being held at the Garden Posta grounds in Iringa Municipality, has brought together government institutions, academic organisations and private sector players to showcase their services, innovations and investment opportunities to the public.
Speaking at the event, Iringa Regional Resident Mines Officer, Geologist Bertha Luzabiko, said the commission's participation is aimed at educating citizens and potential investors on mining activities, mineral licensing procedures and opportunities available across the value chain.
She said Iringa is among the regions endowed with a variety of mineral resources that can play a significant role in driving economic growth, creating jobs and attracting investment.
"The mining sector presents vast opportunities for both local and foreign investors. Through this exhibition, we are providing information that will help wananchi understand how they can participate in the sector in accordance with the country's laws and regulations," she said.
Ms Luzabiko noted that increased public awareness is essential in ensuring that mineral resources are exploited responsibly and contribute meaningfully to local and national development.
The exhibition is also serving as a platform for direct engagement between government institutions and citizens, allowing participants to access information on services and investment opportunities available in different sectors.
Opening the exhibition, Iringa Regional Commissioner Kheri James urged residents to take advantage of the event to acquire knowledge, explore new ideas and identify opportunities that can improve their livelihoods.
He underscored the role of research and innovation in accelerating development and called on institutions to continue developing practical solutions to social and economic challenges facing communities.
The exhibition was organised by the Iringa Regional Commissioner's Office in collaboration with Mkwawa University College of Education as part of broader efforts to strengthen partnerships between public institutions, academia, the private sector and local communities.
Organisers say the event is intended to promote research, innovation and quality service delivery while creating a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge and contribute to the region's development agenda.
