Students at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA), Bukombe Campus, have been encouraged to participate in a Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) innovation competition aimed at generating practical solutions to expand the country’s tax base and simplify tax payment procedures, particularly for small-scale traders.
The call was made by TRA officials from Geita Region during the launch of a Tax Club at the institution on Monday.
Speaking during the event, the officials said the competition provides a platform for students to contribute innovative ideas that could help improve tax administration, enhance service delivery, and promote voluntary tax compliance across the country.
They noted that engaging young people in tax-related initiatives is an important step towards fostering a culture of tax awareness and civic responsibility.
Through participation in such programmes, students gain a deeper understanding of the role taxes play in national development while preparing themselves to become informed and compliant taxpayers in the future.
The officials further emphasized that innovative contributions from students could support ongoing efforts to modernize tax systems, reduce barriers to compliance, and increase tax participation among underserved groups, including small business operators.
The launch of the Tax Club forms part of TRA’s broader strategy to strengthen tax education in higher learning institutions and encourage youth involvement in developing solutions to emerging fiscal and economic challenges.
As Tanzania continues to pursue reforms aimed at improving domestic revenue collection, initiatives that harness the creativity and knowledge of students are increasingly seen as valuable tools for enhancing efficiency and building a sustainable tax culture.
