The Ministry of Finance has called on Tanzanians to take advantage of opportunities offered through public auctions of government assets, saying wider participation can enhance transparency, competition and public access to surplus state property.
The appeal was made by Senior Government Assets Officer George Killo during the ongoing 2026 Public Service Week celebrations at Chinangali Park in Dodoma, where the ministry is educating citizens on government asset management and disposal procedures.
Mr Killo said government institutions periodically dispose of assets that have become obsolete, worn out or no longer serve operational needs.
Such assets, he noted, are sold through public auctions after all legal and administrative requirements have been met.
He said the auctions are conducted under established laws, regulations and guidelines to ensure fairness and equal access for all eligible participants.
“We encourage citizens to follow official auction announcements issued through government platforms and the media so that they can access accurate information on the assets available, participation requirements and auction schedules,” he said.
According to Mr Killo, increased public participation helps improve competition during the bidding process, strengthens accountability in the disposal of public assets and contributes to revenue generation for the Public Servants’ Loan Fund (PSAF).
He noted that the Ministry of Finance continues to provide public education on auction procedures to ensure citizens understand how the process works and can make informed decisions when participating.
Visitors to the ministry’s exhibition booth welcomed the initiative, saying the information provided had improved their understanding of government auctions and the opportunities available through them.
The government has in recent years intensified efforts to strengthen asset management across public institutions, including improving transparency in the disposal of surplus and non-performing assets through open and competitive bidding processes.
