FCC strengthens consumer protection awareness, plans competition clubs in schools

The Fair Competition Commission (FCC) has used the 2026 Public Service Week exhibitions in Dodoma to increase public awareness on fair competition, consumer protection and the fight against counterfeit goods, while unveiling plans to introduce competition clubs in schools and higher learning institutions.

Speaking at the ongoing exhibitions at Chinangali Grounds, the Head of Communication and Public Relations at FCC, Roberta Feruzi, said the event provides a valuable opportunity for the Commission to bring its services closer to citizens and educate them on their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace.

She said visitors to the FCC pavilion are receiving information on competition issues, consumer rights and the dangers of counterfeit products, while the Commission is also receiving and addressing complaints directly from members of the public.

“Public Service Week allows us to engage directly with citizens, explain our mandate and provide immediate solutions to concerns raised by consumers and other stakeholders,” Feruzi said.

She noted that the Commission’s approach aligns with this year’s Public Service Week theme, “Promoting Inclusive Accountability for Sustainable Development,” emphasizing that effective consumer protection and fair competition require cooperation between government institutions, the private sector and the wider community.

As part of its long-term awareness strategy, FCC is preparing to establish Ushindani Clubs in primary schools, secondary schools and universities to build a generation that understands fair competition, consumer rights and the importance of making informed purchasing decisions.

According to Feruzi, the initiative is expected to contribute to the country’s broader development ambitions, including the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, which recognizes the growing role of the private sector in driving economic growth.

She encouraged citizens to visit the FCC pavilion at the Public Service Week exhibitions or use the Commission’s toll-free number to seek information, report concerns and access services related to competition, consumer protection and counterfeit goods.

The annual Public Service Week exhibitions bring together government institutions and stakeholders to showcase services, improve public awareness and strengthen accountability in service delivery.
