The DAWASA has continued to implement major strategic water projects aimed at increasing access to clean, safe and reliable water for residents of Dar es Salaam and surrounding areas, as part of ongoing government efforts to address long-standing water challenges and improve service delivery.
Speaking on the progress of the projects, DAWASA Chief Executive Officer Mkama Bwire said the authority has intensified investments in water infrastructure, focusing on expanding production, improving distribution networks and strengthening pumping systems to ensure more households receive consistent services.
He said one of the key completed interventions is the Bangulo Water Project, which has significantly improved water supply in several densely populated areas including Bangulo, Kinyerezi, Ulongoni A and Ulongoni B, as well as Ukonga, Segerea, Ubungo, Kisarawe and Temeke.
He noted that the project, implemented at a cost of Sh36.9 billion, has helped reduce chronic water shortages that had affected residents for many years, while also improving reliability of supply in both high-demand and rapidly growing settlements.
DAWASA has also completed the Golani booster pump station, which serves Golani, Saranga, Ukombozi and surrounding areas.
The facility, with the capacity to pump 150,000 litres of water per hour, was constructed at a cost of Sh291 million and is already benefiting more than 5,000 residents.
He explained that the booster station is part of the authority’s broader strategy to ensure that even areas located on higher ground and previously difficult to serve now receive stable water supply throughout the day.
In addition, DAWASA is continuing to strengthen water distribution through the Mshikamano Water Project, which benefits residents of Mbezi, Makabe, Msakuzi Kaskazini and Msakuzi Kusini. The project has improved water flow and reduced interruptions by reinforcing the distribution network in these areas.
The DAWASA Chief Executive Officer reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to continue implementing strategic water investments in line with government priorities, with the goal of ensuring all residents of Dar es Salaam have access to safe, clean and sufficient water for daily use, supporting public health, livelihoods and urban development.
