Tanzania’s national Under-20 women’s football team, Tanzanite, has secured qualification to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup scheduled for September this year after a dramatic 3-3 aggregate victory over Cameroon.

The decisive second-leg match was played on May 10 at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, where Tanzanite delivered a commanding performance to win 2-0 and overturn their first-leg setback.

In the first encounter played in Cameroon, Tanzanite suffered a 3-1 defeat, leaving them with a two-goal deficit heading into the return leg.

However, the team showed resilience and determination in front of home fans, producing a disciplined and attacking display to level the aggregate score.

Despite the 3-3 tie over two legs, Tanzanite advanced to the World Cup on the away goals rule, benefiting from the crucial goal scored in Cameroon during the first leg.

That single away goal proved decisive in separating the two sides after a closely contested qualification battle.

The goals in the return leg were scored by Mary Aaron and Hasnath Ubamba, both of whom stepped up at a critical moment to inspire Tanzania to a historic result.

Their goals sparked renewed belief and kept the team firmly in control throughout the match.

At the final whistle, celebrations erupted at the New Amaan Complex as players, technical staff, and supporters marked a landmark achievement for Tanzanian women’s football.

The atmosphere was filled with emotion as fans applauded what is considered one of the country’s most significant youth football successes.

The qualification not only highlights Tanzanite’s growing strength on the continental stage but also reflects the steady progress of women’s football development in Tanzania.

The team now turns its focus to preparing for the global stage in September, where they will compete among the world’s best youth teams.
