A leading Tanzanian transport and logistics company, SAS Logistics Ltd, is seeking to deepen commercial ties with Swedish truck manufacturer Scania as part of an ambitious regional expansion strategy amid growing demand for cargo transportation services in East Africa.
The move emerged during high-level discussions held in Stockholm between Tanzania’s Ambassador to Sweden, H.E. Swahiba Mndeme, and executives from SAS Logistics, who visited the Tanzanian Embassy on May 11, 2026.
Led by Chief Commercial Officer Alex Lugendo and Head of Operations Ally Nassor, the delegation explored potential cooperation areas that could support the company’s future fleet expansion and operational growth.
SAS Logistics, which operates nearly 200 Scania trucks, has established itself as one of Tanzania’s major freight and cargo transportation firms, serving both domestic and cross-border markets.
The company’s latest engagement with Scania reflects the increasing importance of reliable logistics infrastructure in supporting trade flows across the region.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured Scania’s headquarters in Stockholm, where discussions focused on strengthening long-term business relations and identifying opportunities for enhanced cooperation in transport technology, fleet development and logistics efficiency.
The talks also signal the growing shift in Tanzania’s international engagement strategy, where economic diplomacy is increasingly being used to promote trade, investment and private-sector partnerships rather than traditional aid-driven relations.
Officials said the collaboration highlights expanding commercial relations between Tanzania and Sweden, particularly in sectors linked to transport, infrastructure and industrial development.
The Tanzanian Embassy in Stockholm said it will continue supporting local businesses seeking to access markets in the Nordic countries, Baltic states and Ukraine, as part of wider efforts to position Tanzanian enterprises within global trade networks.
