Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the tourism sector by expanding strategic cooperation with global tourism stakeholders, focusing on skills development, modern technology, and increased investment opportunities to enhance the country’s competitiveness in the international tourism market.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Hassan Abbasi, led Tanzania’s delegation on May 7, 2026, at a high-level international tourism stakeholders’ meeting organized by the World Travel & Tourism Council

The meeting was held aboard the luxury cruise vessel Crystal Serenity, which was travelling from Sokhna Port to Alexandria in Egypt.

The engagement brought together global tourism leaders to deliberate on ways of strengthening the tourism industry through innovation, investment facilitation, and human capital development.

During the discussions, Dr. Abbasi held talks with WTTC President and Chief Executive Officer Gloria Guevara, alongside Vice Chairperson Najib Balala

The leaders explored practical mechanisms through which WTTC can further support Tanzania in expanding tourism training programmes, advancing digital transformation, and attracting sustainable tourism investment.

The discussions highlighted the importance of equipping tourism professionals with modern skills, strengthening digital platforms for tourism services, and improving global visibility of Tanzania as a competitive and attractive destination.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Abbasi emphasized that Tanzania remains committed to working closely with international partners to unlock the full potential of the tourism sector, which continues to be one of the key contributors to the national economy through foreign exchange earnings and employment creation.

He further noted that investment in training, innovation, and technology is central to ensuring that Tanzania’s tourism industry remains resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive.

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Egypt, Major General Richard M. Makanzo, also attended the meeting, reaffirming the importance of strengthening diplomatic cooperation in advancing tourism development and investment linkages between Tanzania and global partners.

The engagement marks another important step in Tanzania’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with leading global tourism institutions to improve service delivery, enhance skills, and increase the country’s share in the fast-growing global travel and tourism industry.
