Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila on May 26, 2026 held talks with the Governor of Khomas Region in Namibia during an official meeting at his office in Ilala Boma, Dar es Salaam, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.
The visiting delegation was led by Khomas Regional Governor Sam Nujoma and included Namibia’s Ambassador to Tanzania Titus Shikongo, alongside Matheus Olavi, the Governor’s assistant.
During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on economic and development opportunities available between Khomas Region and Dar es Salaam Region, with a focus on boosting trade, investment, and institutional cooperation at the regional level.
RC Chalamila said Dar es Salaam remains Tanzania’s economic hub and a strategic gateway for regional and international trade, adding that partnerships with other African regions are key in advancing shared development goals.
The Khomas Governor expressed interest in learning from Dar es Salaam’s rapid urban and infrastructure development, particularly in areas of transport, trade facilitation, and public service delivery.
He noted that Namibia values closer cooperation with Tanzania as part of strengthening African regional integration.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited key national economic and historical landmarks, including the Dar es Salaam Port, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), and the National Museum of Tanzania.
At the port, the delegation observed ongoing operations and the role of the facility in enhancing trade efficiency within the East African region and beyond.
They also visited the SGR, where they were briefed on Tanzania’s ongoing investments in modern rail transport aimed at improving connectivity and reducing logistics costs.
At the National Museum, the delegation explored exhibitions highlighting Africa’s liberation history and the continent’s long struggle for independence, with particular attention to the shared heritage of African unity and solidarity.
The visit was described as part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation between Tanzania and Namibia at regional government level, while promoting cultural exchange and economic diplomacy.
The Khomas Governor is still in Dar es Salaam and is expected to continue with further visits to key development areas as part of his official tour.
