Tanzania’s Minister for Home Affairs, Hon. Patrobas Katambi, has pledged continued legal and disciplinary action against police officers who violate laws, procedures and professional ethics in the line of duty.
Speaking before President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Katambi said the Police Force remains committed to protecting its image and integrity by dealing firmly with a few officers whose actions tarnish the reputation of the institution.
The minister made the remarks during the graduation ceremony for Police Officers and Assistant Inspectors General trainees, Course No. 1 of 2025/2026, held at Kurasini in Dar es Salaam.
Katambi said the government recognizes various measures already taken against officers who fail to follow procedures and violate their oath of service, adding that the majority of police officers continue to perform their duties professionally and in accordance with the law.
“I acknowledge that different actions have already been taken against officers who went against procedures, but we should also appreciate that many officers continue to uphold their principles and oaths in carrying out their duties,” said Katambi.
He assured President Samia that the ministry and the Police Force would continue to strengthen accountability and discipline among officers while ensuring that policing duties are conducted within the framework of the law.
Katambi further reminded officers of their constitutional responsibility and the oath they swore to serve the nation faithfully.
“We took an oath before Almighty God, we swore to uphold our Constitution, and we pledged loyalty to the authority of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania,” he said.
The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen professionalism, accountability and public trust within the Police Force.
