Legendary Expeditions, Auberge collection seal landmark Safari partnership in Tanzania

By The Respondents Reporter

Legendary Expeditions, one of Tanzania’s most established safari operators with deep roots in the stewardship of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro ecosystems, has entered a strategic partnership with Auberge Collection, bringing all six of its properties under a unified global platform known as Auberge Safari.

The collaboration marks not an expansion of assets but an integration of two hospitality philosophies that share a common belief: that the most meaningful travel experiences are defined by place, authenticity, and a strong connection to nature.

Under the new arrangement, Legendary Expeditions and Auberge Collection are being brought together into a single identity that combines East Africa’s wilderness heritage with Auberge’s global luxury hospitality network.

The aim is to introduce Tanzania’s iconic safari experiences to a broader international audience while preserving their originality and ecological integrity.

Legendary Expeditions has for more than four decades played a central role in conservation and responsible tourism in northern Tanzania.

Its operations are closely tied to long-term efforts in wildlife protection, habitat preservation, and community empowerment, implemented in collaboration with conservation partners.

Auberge Collection, meanwhile, is an international hospitality brand known for curating distinctive properties across three continents, each designed to reflect its environment while offering high-end, personalised guest experiences rooted in design, cuisine, and service.

The partnership brings together six properties operated by Legendary Expeditions. These include Mwiba Lodge and Mwiba Plains, located within an exclusive-use wilderness area bordering the southern Serengeti; Mila, an intimate tented camp in the Western Serengeti; Nyasi and Songa, classic-style camps positioned near the Mara River migration corridors; and Legendary Lodge in Arusha, set on a historic coffee estate.

Collectively, the properties offer access to some of East Africa’s most important wildlife landscapes, including the Serengeti National Park and the greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area.

The circuit is widely regarded for its exclusivity, biodiversity, and proximity to key migration routes.

Despite the new integration, Legendary Expeditions will continue to operate under its established leadership, teams, and conservation standards.

The company says there will be no change in its core approach to hospitality, which remains anchored in sustainability, local partnerships, and immersive wilderness experiences.

The guiding philosophy of the partnership is to maintain the authenticity of each destination while enhancing global visibility.

The guest experience, according to the partners, will continue to reflect what they describe as “True. Wild. Free.” a concept centred on unfiltered engagement with nature and place.

Auberge Safari is expected to strengthen Tanzania’s positioning in the global high-end safari market, particularly among travellers seeking exclusive, conservation-driven experiences.

It also reinforces the growing trend of partnerships between African safari operators and global luxury hospitality brands aimed at expanding reach while maintaining environmental responsibility.

Legendary Expeditions operates a network of safari lodges and camps across northern Tanzania, including Mwiba Lodge, Mwiba Plains, Mila, Nyasi, Songa, and Legendary Lodge in Arusha.

The company works closely with conservation partners to support anti-poaching operations, habitat protection, and community development initiatives within the ecosystems it operates.

Auberge Collection is a global portfolio of luxury hotels, resorts, safari camps, lodges, residences, and private clubs across multiple continents.

Each property is individually designed to reflect its location, with a focus on immersive experiences, refined design, exceptional cuisine, and personalised service.
