The Government has outlined five major priorities for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation in the 2025/2026 financial year, focusing on strengthening diplomacy, attracting investment and protecting Tanzania’s national interests.

Presenting the ministry’s budget speech in Parliament in Dodoma on May 26, 2026, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, said the priorities are aimed at improving the ministry’s performance and supporting national development through effective diplomacy.

Mr Kombo said the ministry will continue enhancing Tanzania’s cooperation with other countries while increasing the nation’s participation in regional and international organisations.

He noted that the strategy seeks to strengthen political diplomacy and ensure Tanzania’s interests are protected globally.

He said the ministry is also implementing the 2001 Foreign Policy, 2024 Edition, with strong emphasis on economic diplomacy aimed at attracting foreign investment, expanding international markets for Tanzanian products and promoting tourism.

According to the minister, Tanzania has continued to play an active role in regional and international peace and security matters as part of efforts to maintain stability and strengthen cooperation among nations.

Mr Kombo further told Parliament that the ministry is improving the working environment for its staff, promoting good governance and overseeing the implementation of development projects under its institutions.

He said the government remains committed to ensuring the country’s foreign policy contributes effectively to economic growth, social development and Tanzania’s diplomatic influence at the international level.
