The Office of the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania has issued a strong public warning over a fake Facebook page operating under the name “Huduma ya Uwezeshaji,” which is misleading citizens by falsely promising access to online loans and misusing government images to appear official.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the government said the fraudulent page is advertising quick loans ranging from TZS 120,000 to TZS 1,000,000, claiming that applicants can receive money within five minutes.
The page also alleges that the loans carry a monthly interest rate of about five percent, a tactic aimed at attracting citizens in need of fast financial support.
The government clarified that the page has no link whatsoever with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania or any official empowerment programme.
It further warned that scammers are using images of senior government leaders without authorization in order to build trust and deceive members of the public into applying for fake loans and paying so-called “processing fees,” which are in fact advance fraud charges.
The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that all legitimate government empowerment and loan schemes are implemented through recognized systems, including the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC), local government allocations for youth, women and people with disabilities, and other approved public programmes.
Citizens were urged to verify all information through official channels before taking any action or sending money.
The government also advised the public not to send money or share personal details with suspicious online pages.
It encouraged citizens to report fraudulent content directly on Facebook using the “Report Ad” feature and to contact law enforcement authorities or the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) through the toll-free number 159 when they encounter suspected online fraud.
