The government has directed that the construction of Togo Road in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, be completed by June 2026, while the contract for the long-awaited Kimario (Brazil) Road is set to be signed on May 25, 2026.

The move is part of ongoing efforts to improve urban transport and reduce long-standing mobility challenges facing residents.

The directive was issued on May 10, 2026, by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, during an inspection tour of development projects being implemented by the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in Kinondoni District.

The visit came following concerns raised by residents through their Member of Parliament, Abbas Tarimba, regarding delays in road infrastructure and difficulties experienced during rainy seasons when several roads become impassable.

Prof. Shemdoe instructed all implementing institutions to ensure strict adherence to the set timelines, stressing that the government expects tangible results that directly improve citizens’ daily lives.

He said the completion of Togo Road in June 2026 must not be delayed, while preparations for the signing of the Kimario (Brazil) Road contract should be finalized to ensure work begins immediately after.

“We have agreed that Togo Road must be completed by June 2026, and the Kimario (Brazil) Road contract will be signed on May 25, 2026. Leaders at all levels must ensure close supervision so that these projects are delivered on time for the benefit of citizens,” he said.

Prof. Shemdoe also directed TARURA officials in Dar es Salaam region and Kinondoni District to closely monitor contractors and ensure that work is done to expected standards, particularly to withstand weather challenges during rainy seasons.

He further acknowledged the government’s continued investment in infrastructure under the second phase of the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP II), which aims to improve urban mobility and support economic activities.

He commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for prioritizing road infrastructure, noting that Kinondoni alone is benefiting from 17 road projects under DMDP II, with a combined length of 36.483 kilometers and an investment of Sh97.7 billion.

“These projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of citizens by making transport easier, safer, and more reliable,” he added.

Kinondoni Member of Parliament Abbas Tarimba expressed appreciation for the Minister’s field visit, saying it demonstrated strong government responsiveness to citizens’ concerns.

He said residents were encouraged by the leadership’s direct involvement and commitment to ensuring development projects are completed.

“This visit has shown residents that their concerns are being heard. It also gives confidence that these road projects will be completed for the benefit of the community,” said Tarimba.

Residents of Kinondoni have long faced transport difficulties, particularly during rainy seasons when deteriorated roads disrupt movement of people, goods, and services.

The ongoing and planned road projects are expected to significantly improve accessibility, reduce travel time, and support economic activities in the area.

The government has continued to prioritize infrastructure development as a key pillar in improving service delivery and enhancing the quality of life for urban communities across Dar es Salaam and the country at large.
