The Chief Executive Officer of NMB Bank Plc, Ruth Zaipuna, is set to represent Tanzania and Africa’s banking sector at the Cambridge Africa Business Conference 2026, scheduled for May 30, 2026, at the Cambridge Judge Business School under the University of Cambridge.
Her participation places Tanzania’s financial sector on a prestigious global platform, reflecting the growing influence of African-led financial institutions in shaping international business and investment discussions.
The conference will bring together global business leaders, investors, academics and policymakers to deliberate on Africa’s economic transformation, with emphasis on capital, innovation, and sustainable continental growth.
During the high-level forum, Zaipuna is expected to deliver a keynote address highlighting NMB Bank’s transformation journey and its contribution to Tanzania’s economic development over the years.
She will outline how the bank has evolved from a modest financial institution into one of Tanzania’s leading and most trusted commercial banks, playing a key role in supporting national development priorities.
Her address is also expected to focus on NMB’s contribution to financial inclusion, particularly in expanding access to banking services for individuals, smallholder farmers, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which remain the backbone of Tanzania’s economy.
In addition, she will showcase the bank’s continued investment in digital banking innovations that have simplified financial transactions, improved efficiency, and extended services to remote and underserved communities across the country.
The 2026 conference is themed “Building Africa’s Future: Capital, Innovation and Continental Growth,” reflecting a shared vision to strengthen Africa’s position in the global economy through innovation, investment, and stronger regional integration.
Discussions will also highlight the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in unlocking trade opportunities and accelerating economic growth across the continent.
African Continental Free Trade Area is widely regarded as a key driver for boosting intra-African trade, industrial development, and market integration.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ruth Zaipuna described her invitation as a significant honour for both NMB Bank and Tanzania.
She said it demonstrates the growing recognition of African financial institutions that are building strong, competitive, and globally relevant banking systems.
She added that NMB’s journey reflects how locally rooted institutions can achieve international standards while remaining committed to serving communities and supporting national development goals.
Zaipuna further emphasized the need for African financial institutions to continue investing in innovation, technology, and inclusive financial solutions that improve livelihoods and accelerate economic transformation across the continent.
Her participation is expected to strengthen Tanzania’s visibility in global financial and investment circles while reinforcing NMB Bank’s position as a leading financial institution in East Africa.
