Former Chelsea F.C. and Ivory Coast national team captain Didier Drogba has arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, following an official invitation from the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda.
Drogba, one of the most celebrated strikers in world football history, touched down in the country on Monday where he is expected to take part in a series of engagements with sports stakeholders, government officials, and young athletes.
The former star, who made a lasting impact at Chelsea F.C. and led the national team of Ivory Coast, said he was delighted to visit Tanzania and looked forward to connecting with people during his stay.
“I am very happy to be in Dar es Salaam following the invitation from Minister Makonda. I look forward to meeting my people,” Drogba said shortly after arrival.
The visit, facilitated through the invitation of Paul Makonda, is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen sports diplomacy, inspire young footballers, and promote international sporting cooperation.
Drogba’s presence in the country has already generated excitement among football fans, with many viewing his visit as a rare opportunity to engage with one of Africa’s most iconic sporting figures.
