Five countries have officially confirmed their participation in the Africa Zone Five Beach Volleyball Championship, which is scheduled to take place from May 20 to 25 at Sawa Sawa Beach in Dar es Salaam.
The competition is expected to bring together top beach volleyball teams from the region as they compete for qualification slots to the Olympic Games beach volleyball tournament set to be held in the United States.
Speaking to The Respondent, Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF) Beach Volleyball Commissioner Abdul Magono said the confirmed participating countries are Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Egypt, and hosts Tanzania.
He added that organizers are still awaiting official written confirmation from South Sudan, which would complete the list of six expected nations.
“Preparations are going well. We are expecting six countries in total. So far, five countries have confirmed participation and we are still waiting for South Sudan to finalize their confirmation,” said Magono.
He noted that the championship is part of the qualification pathway for the Olympic Games beach volleyball competition, making it an important event for participating nations aiming for international slots.
Magono further said preparations for the event are in advanced stages, including improvements of the competition venue at Sawa Sawa Beach and arrangements for accommodation to host all participating teams.
He also called on stakeholders in the sports sector to support the event, saying their contribution will help ensure successful organization and smooth execution of the championship.
On Tanzania’s national teams, Magono said both the men’s and women’s squads are continuing with intensive training to ensure strong performance on home soil.
He explained that the teams are currently training at Moyo Beach before moving to Sawa Sawa Beach next week for final preparations ahead of the tournament.
In the men’s category, Tanzania will be represented by David Neeke, Omari Bure, Selemani Hassan, Ezekiel Rabson, Michael Ngonge, and Said Alhaj.
The women’s team comprises Evelyne Albert, Mariam Omary, Flora Edward, and Janeth Ajili, under the technical bench led by Ameir Msimu, assisted by Yusuph Mkalambati.
