Zanzibar President and CCM Vice Chairman, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that discussions between CCM and ACT-Wazalendo on the formation of a Government of National Unity are progressing well, with CCM fully prepared to participate in the process for the benefit of the nation and its citizens.
He made the remarks on May 9, 2026, while speaking to CCM leaders and members from the North Unguja Region during a post-election thanksgiving meeting held at the CCM offices in Mahonda.
Dr Mwinyi said the ongoing talks between CCM and ACT-Wazalendo reflect a commitment to political stability, national unity, and continued development in Zanzibar.
He explained that CCM is approaching the process with responsibility, wisdom, and a strong focus on safeguarding the interests of the nation and its people.
According to him, unity and cooperation among political actors remain essential for maintaining peace and accelerating development.
Dr Mwinyi, who is also the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, emphasized that CCM will continue to ensure that the dialogue is conducted in a constructive and transparent manner that prioritizes citizens’ welfare.
He called on party leaders and members to remain united and focused, stressing that political maturity and discipline are key in strengthening democracy and ensuring stability across the islands.
During the meeting, Dr Mwinyi urged CCM members in North Unguja to carry out a serious evaluation of the recently concluded General Election, noting that such assessments are important for improving future performance and service delivery.
He also directed party structures to begin early preparations for the 2030 General Election, including strengthening internal party elections and organizational systems to enhance efficiency and competitiveness.
Dr Mwinyi further stressed the importance of unity, ethical leadership, and commitment to the party’s manifesto, saying these are the guiding principles for delivering meaningful development to citizens.
He reminded leaders that CCM’s strength lies in its ability to remain close to the people, understand their challenges, and respond with practical solutions that improve daily life.
On economic development, Dr Mwinyi said the Zanzibar government is continuing to implement key reforms aimed at strengthening the economy, particularly through improvements in port infrastructure and logistics systems to boost trade and investment.
He noted that the modernization of ports is expected to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and create more opportunities for local businesses and traders.
In the energy sector, Dr Mwinyi said the government is also investing in reliable and sustainable power solutions, including solar, wind, and natural gas, to ensure consistent electricity supply across Zanzibar.
He said access to reliable energy is central to improving livelihoods, supporting small businesses, and attracting investment in key sectors such as tourism and manufacturing.
“Reliable electricity and strong infrastructure are not just development goals; they are the foundation of better living standards for our people,” he said.
Dr Mwinyi concluded by urging CCM leaders and members to stay united, work closely with citizens, and continue strengthening the party at all levels.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peace, stability, and inclusive development, saying that Zanzibar’s progress depends on unity, discipline, and a shared vision focused on improving the lives of all citizens.
