By Carlos Claudio, Dodoma

Police in Dodoma Region are holding three suspects in connection with the murder of a bodaboda rider, Omary Bakari (21), a resident of the Michese area in Dodoma City.

It is alleged that the victim was stabbed with a sharp object on the neck and back by attackers who intended to steal his motorcycle.

Speaking to journalists, Dodoma Regional Police Commander Gallus Hyera said the incident occurred on March 21 this year at around 9:30 p.m. along Chinyoya Street in Kilimani Ward, Dodoma City.

Commander Hyera explained that after the incident, police launched intensive patrols and an operation that led to the arrest of one suspect, Sadick Jonathan (23), in Mazase Village, Chamwino District.

The suspect was found in possession of the deceased’s motorcycle, a black Sinoray with registration number MC 556 FPE.

Following interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to committing the crime with two accomplices, identified as Paulo Abiel (26) and Ramadhani Hamidu (35), both residents of Dodoma. The two were later arrested while allegedly attempting to flee to neighbouring regions.

In a separate operation, the Dodoma Regional Police also dismantled a livestock theft syndicate, arresting 12 suspects in different parts of the city.

Among those arrested is Kedmon Steven and 11 others, who are alleged to have been involved in armed livestock theft.

Police said that after stealing the animals, the suspects would slaughter them and distribute the meat in various markets for illegal profit.

Several traders suspected of collaborating with the group by purchasing and selling the stolen livestock and meat have also been arrested.

Commander Hyera said all suspects will be taken to court once police complete their investigations.
