Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on Sunday joined thousands of worshippers in Dar es Salaam for an Easter gospel concert, where he emphasised the importance of peace and unity for the country’s social and economic wellbeing.
The event, known as the Easter Mtoko Festival, was organised by renowned Tanzanian gospel singer Christina Shusho and held at the Mlimani City Conference Centre on April 5.
Speaking during the celebration, Dr Nchemba said Easter provides an opportunity for Tanzanians to reflect on the values of love, solidarity and peaceful coexistence.
He noted that peace remains the foundation of all national activities, stressing that without stability citizens would struggle to conduct business, pursue livelihoods or freely practise their faith.
“Peace is not for the benefit of the President or the Government. It is for every citizen. Without peace, even small activities such as earning a daily income cannot take place,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that ordinary citizens are the primary beneficiaries of peace because economic, social and religious activities depend on stability and harmony within society.
He also commended Ms Shusho for organising the large-scale gospel event that attracted thousands of believers, saying its success demonstrates the important role of faith in strengthening moral values and unity among Tanzanians.
“When you see an initiative succeed on this scale, you should know it has God’s blessing. The Government will not stand in the way of efforts aimed at advancing gospel ministry,” he said.
During the event, the Prime Minister also extended condolences to traders affected by a fire that destroyed the Mawasiliano Market, popularly known as Simu 2000, located in Sinza ward in Ubungo District, Dar es Salaam, on April 4.
He said the government has launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire and ensure appropriate measures are taken.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, called on citizens to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and stability across the country.
He said safeguarding national security is a shared responsibility and urged the public to continue working closely with law enforcement authorities to preserve the country’s peace.
The Easter festival was attended by various government leaders, religious leaders, worshippers and stakeholders from the gospel music community in Tanzania and beyond.
