Nation pays tribute to Bishop Mfumbusa’s legacy of unity and service

The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Emmanuel Nchimbi, has said the nation will remember the lasting contribution of the late Bishop Bernadin Mfumbusa, particularly his efforts in promoting unity among religious denominations and strengthening cooperation between the Catholic Church and other faith communities.

He made the remarks after attending a requiem Mass and prayer service for the late Bishop of Kondoa Catholic Diocese, Bishop Bernadin Francis Mfumbusa, held at St. Paul of the Cross Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Dodoma.

Emmanuel Nchimbi said Bishop Mfumbusa devoted his life to building bridges of understanding among different religions, encouraging dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence. 

He noted that the late bishop played an important role in strengthening harmony among faith groups in Tanzania.

He added that the nation will also remember Bishop Mfumbusa’s strong contribution to education, where he supported initiatives aimed at improving learning opportunities for communities. 

In addition, he highlighted the bishop’s efforts in promoting and overseeing the development of health services in Kondoa District and other parts of the country, where he encouraged community-based development projects.

The Vice President further said Bishop Mfumbusa also made notable contributions in the field of communication and media, where he served as a teacher and professional, helping to guide and mentor many people in the sector.

He emphasized that Bishop Mfumbusa will be remembered for fulfilling his responsibility to humanity by serving people in their daily lives, while also fulfilling his spiritual duty by guiding believers toward a life of faith and eternal hope.

Emmanuel Nchimbi also conveyed the condolences of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to the Church, the faithful, and the family of the late bishop. 

He urged the bereaved family to remain strong and assured them of the government’s support and solidarity during this period of mourning.

He expressed gratitude to the Catholic Church leadership for their role in shaping Bishop Mfumbusa through strong moral and spiritual formation, which enabled him to serve as a devoted servant of both the Church and the nation.

The funeral Mass was led by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Dodoma, Bishop Wilbroad Kibozi, and was attended by bishops, priests, religious leaders, government officials, and members of the public who gathered to pay their final respects.
