The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has witnessed a smooth transition of leadership following the official handover of office to its new Director General, Engineer Peter Phillip Mwasalyanda.
The handover ceremony took place on April 27, 2026, at the Communications Towers in Dar es Salaam, where Dr. Jabir K. Bakari formally passed over the instruments of power to his successor in the presence of TCRA’s management team.
The event marked the end of Dr. Bakari’s tenure and the beginning of a new phase under Mwasalyanda, who now takes charge of one of the country’s key regulatory institutions overseeing telecommunications, broadcasting and postal services.
Speaking during the brief ceremony, both leaders underscored the importance of continuity, professionalism and commitment in driving the authority’s mandate, particularly at a time when the communications sector is rapidly evolving.
Mwasalyanda assumes office as Tanzania continues to expand its digital economy, with increasing demand for reliable connectivity, innovation and strong regulatory oversight to protect consumers and promote fair competition.
The orderly transition reflects institutional stability within TCRA and signals continued focus on strengthening the country’s communications landscape in line with national development priorities.
