JKT shift focus to national boxing championship after strong regional performance

The The Tanzania National Service (JKT) boxing team has intensified preparations for the upcoming National Open Boxing Championship scheduled for April 20 in Dar es Salaam, following an impressive performance at the recently concluded regional open championship.

JKT head coach Mng’ola said the team has already resumed rigorous training sessions as they aim to build on the momentum gained from the regional competition and improve their performance at the national stage.

During the regional championship, JKT boxers delivered a strong performance, collecting 16 medals in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The team secured seven gold medals, four silver medals and five bronze medals, a result that has boosted confidence within the camp.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, Mng’ola said the outcome of the regional tournament has motivated the team to work even harder as they prepare for the national championship, where they hope to increase their medal tally.

He explained that the regional championship was an important test for the boxers, giving the technical bench an opportunity to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each athlete before heading into a tougher national competition.

According to the coach, the tournament was conducted on an individual basis, which allowed the team’s technical staff to carefully evaluate each boxer’s performance.

“These were individual competitions that helped us identify the weaknesses of every boxer. Now we are back in training to correct those areas before the national championship,” said Mng’ola.

He added that the team is preparing with renewed determination this year, emphasizing that their goal is not only to participate but to compete strongly for top honours.

Mng’ola also warned that JKT will be a stronger side at the national championship, noting that their rivals should expect a tougher challenge from his fighters.

“We are preparing with new energy and focus this year. Our opponents must also prepare well if they want to match us,” he said.

The National Open Boxing Championship is expected to attract top boxing clubs and athletes from across Tanzania, making it one of the most competitive events in the country’s boxing calendar as teams battle for national supremacy.
