The government has pledged to construct a modern dining hall at Longido Secondary School in Arusha Region, responding to long-standing congestion challenges affecting more than 3,000 students.
The commitment was announced by Deputy Minister in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) for Education, Festo Dugange, during the school’s 21st Form Six graduation ceremony held on Saturday.
Dr Dugange said the government will allocate over TZS 700 million for the construction of a new dining hall designed to improve student welfare and accommodate the growing population at the school.
“The government has heard your concerns. We are committed to allocating more than TZS 700 million for the construction of a modern dining hall that will adequately serve students at Longido Secondary School,” he said.
The pledge follows concerns raised by Form Six students, who highlighted that the current dining facility is too small, causing congestion and disruptions during meal times and other daily school activities.
Dr Dugange said the government is prioritising improvements in school infrastructure to ensure a conducive learning environment across the country.
Longido District Commissioner Salumu Kalli welcomed the announcement and urged graduating students to focus on preparations for their national examinations scheduled to begin on May 4, 2026.
He stressed discipline and hard work, saying academic success will depend on commitment during the final preparation period.
The school head teacher, Justine Swai, said teachers have completed preparations and expressed confidence in strong performance from the candidates.
“We have prepared our students well and we are confident they will perform strongly in their examinations,” he said.
The project is expected to significantly improve student welfare and reduce overcrowding, supporting better learning conditions at the school.
