The Government has pledged full support for the upcoming international women’s boxing showcase “Knockout ya Mama” and directed that the event be broadcast live to ensure wide public access across Tanzania.
The assurance was given by the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, which said it will work closely with organizers to guarantee the success of the event scheduled for April 24, 2026, at Ubungo in Dar es Salaam.
The event, organized by Mafia Boxing Promotion, is expected to feature a series of international bouts, some of which will be championship fights, reflecting the growing competitiveness and visibility of women’s boxing in the region.
Speaking on April 20, 2026, during the signing ceremony marking Tanzania’s role as host of the Miss World 2027, Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Paul Makonda reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the sports and creative industry.
He said the government stands firmly behind the organizers and expects the event to be delivered at a high standard that will showcase Tanzania’s growing capacity in hosting international sporting competitions.
Makonda called on Tanzanians to turn up in large numbers and secure tickets early, stressing that supporting women’s sports is part of building a more inclusive and competitive sporting culture.
He also issued a strong directive on broadcasting arrangements, insisting that the matches must be aired live to enable citizens in both urban and rural areas to follow the action in real time.
“The fight must be broadcast live so that Tanzanians everywhere can watch, enjoy the entertainment, and stay informed,” he said.
The minister noted that lessons from past events have been taken into account, with arrangements now strengthened to ensure uninterrupted live transmission. He added that dedicated media teams will be deployed at the venue to enhance coverage and improve access for audiences nationwide.
Beyond broadcasting, Makonda emphasized the importance of continued societal support for girls involved in boxing, saying they have demonstrated strong potential to compete at national and international levels and serve as positive ambassadors for the country.
He commended promoters, athletes, and stakeholders for their role in advancing women’s boxing, describing their efforts as key to unlocking talent and expanding opportunities within the sports sector.
At the same time, he urged organizers to also invest in similar high-profile platforms for male boxers, noting that balanced development of sports is essential to ensuring equal opportunities for all athletes to grow and excel.
