The Attorney General, Hamza S. Johari, on April 14, 2026, held high-level talks with the Chairperson of the Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI) Committee, Wilson K. Masilingi, in Dodoma, in a move aimed at strengthening accountability in the country’s lucrative extractive sector.

Ambassador Masilingi, who was appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan earlier this year, visited the Attorney General’s Office at Parliament to formally introduce himself and express appreciation for the office’s continued role in guiding the government on critical legal matters.

The meeting focused on deepening collaboration between the two institutions, with both leaders underscoring the need for stronger legal and institutional frameworks to enhance transparency and public trust in the management of Tanzania’s mineral, oil, and gas resources.

Their discussions come at a time when the country is placing increased emphasis on openness in revenue flows and governance of natural resources, as part of broader efforts to ensure citizens benefit fairly from the sector.

The talks also highlighted the importance of aligning legal oversight with transparency initiatives, particularly as TEITI continues to play a central role in monitoring and reporting on revenues from extractive industries.

Ambassador Masilingi was accompanied by TEITI Executive Secretary, Mariam Mgaya, who also took part in the discussions.
